Lift Access with Telephone Entry

Among the critical points of vulnerability for many high-rise multi-tenant facilities are elevator lobbies and the elevators themselves. Properly securing an elevator system will effectively reduce an organization's/household's risk from theft of assets and proprietary information, improve employee/resident safety and limit unwanted transient traffic.
It will be easy to manage and control employee/resident access by using electronic card access control. However for visitor to gain access to the premises, conventional method is either by issuing access card to the visitor during his/her registration at the reception or visitor has to be escort by respective tenant which will incur lot of resource and time. Another method is to integrate the conventional intercom system at the lift lobby for visitor to call the tenant to grant access, this will involve lot of massive work to integrate between the lift control system, laying dedicated intercom line to all the tenant, provide intercom set to all tenant which will further incur cost and resource for subsequence maintenance. This is much more difficult especially when retrofitting old building.
To overcome all these problem, Bostex has developed an innovative solution which provide a most cost effective and efficient method by integrating between our existing Lift Access Control System and Telephone Access Control System.

System Configuration

In this configuration, only 2 type of our controller is required:
1.Lift Access Controller (BS610-4L)
a)Bostex Intelligent Lift Controller (BS610-4L) is a powerful real time lift controller for multi-level buildings requiring access control up to 128 floors (build-in with 16 onboard lift floor enable output, extend to another 112 output using BS1000-1 expansion board). The lift control system allows the employees or residents to use an access card or credential to gain access to a specific floor to which they have permitted access.
b)On presentation of a valid card at the reader, access to authorised floors is granted and floor buttons are enabled.
c)Pre-configured 'Access Rules' set within the BTEPS system provide access restrictions of individual floors according to the user's authorization. The lift controller communicates to BTEPS via RS485 or TCP/IP protocol configured with a unique IP address. It can be fully administered by any computer on the network with authorization to BTEPS.
d)The Intelligent Lift Controller can operate off-line, with no performance degradation, should communications with the BTEPS fail.
2.Telephone Access Controller (BSTES)
a)Bostex Telephone Access Controller build-in with a telephone communication function to use the existing telephone line to communicate with tenant/resident. Installing dedicated lines between the controller and each resident unit is not required.
b)Waive off the cabling work and individual resident intercom unit cost and maintenance.
c)Only those registered resident phone number can be call and remote open door via phone definable keypad.
d)Calls can be divert to resident's mobile phone if nobody available in the room to realize remote open door function.
e)“Do Not Disturb” can be enabled to prevent nuisance telephone call during a certain period.
f)Support build-in reader with full access control function.
From these 2 controller function description, they are the best combination to achieve the lift access control operation and remotely manage visitor access by individual receptionist/resident. Besides the connection of BS610-4L relay output to the respective lift floor enable interface, the field engineer just need to connect the BSTES as a 2nd level controller to the BS610-4L using RS485 communication cable and provide a dedicated phone line to the BSTES to complete the Lift and Telephone Intercom integration. This configuration not only saves a lot on wire, construction and intercom set costs but also reduce the trouble to provide intercom wiring to individual tenant room/office which greatly improved system reliability and reduce maintenance costs to the minimum.

Operation Description
During the administration stage, all the employee/resident information, card number, access right, tenant phone number and directory need to be setup and download to the BS610-4L and BSTES. As BSTES is connected as a 2nd level controller to BS610-4L, BS610-4L will buffer all the data need to be download and transaction received from BSTES.
Since BSTES also has build-in reader, employee/resident just need to present card on BSTES to call the lift and BS610-4L will grant access to his/her authorized floor when receive valid access record with card ID from BSTES.
For visitor access, the following steps apply:
1.When arrive at the lift lobby, Visitor will call the tenant either by selecting the tenant name from BSTES directory list or directly enter the tenant room address.
2.When tenant has pick up the call and verify the visitor identity, he/she will press the defined phone key to call down the lift car via BSTES and BS610-4L will enable the lift floor base on tenant card ID receive from BSTES.
3.Visitor will just enter the lift and go to the tenant authorize floor without further operation.
Similar to the normal card access operation, all visitor access granted by tenant will be recorded as event reference to tenant card ID.

Further Enhancement
To have a more flexible operation, a reader can be installed inside the lift car to allow employee/resident to gain access to other authorize floors. By assigning different access right to tenant and employee/resident, we can ensure that when grant access by telephone, visitor can only go to the visiting floor and employee/resident have the choice of selecting which of the authorize floors they want to access when present a valid card.
To further enhance the security level, user has the option to install telephone access controller with build in Web camera to take snap shot of all visitor or employee/resident photo to serve as a further security log for future investigation or prevent buddy system.
In some requirement, telephone access controller can even installed at the lobby main door so visitor must be verify by the tenant before allowing to enter  the lift lobby.
